The joints of the face are a set of small joints between each two adjacent vertebrae in the spine. Its function is to guide and limit the movement of each spinal segment. The joints of the cervical face are responsible for the rotational ability of the cervical spine (neck and upper spine) as well as forward and backward flexion. They can often be disrupted by degeneration, dislocation, fracture injury, trauma instability, osteoarthritis and surgery. Torsion injuries are also a frequent cause of damage to facet joints. The pain caused by the rupture of the joints of the cervical face will be felt in the head, neck, shoulder or arm.
