There is so much that can be done to treat arthritis in dogs and cats that does not involve giving them medication, and every comprehensive arthritis control plan should include some or all of the things that I will discuss with you today. .
The treatment of arthritis should consider the entire animal and its environment. Home remedies and management strategies can be very helpful in keeping our older dogs and cats comfortable until well into their old age.
While medications are by far the most effective form of treatment, there are also many other options that may delay the need to start, or that may mean that we will get away with a lower dose.
After the diagnosis, a long-term structured treatment plan should be formulated. We must keep in mind that we are trying instead to cure the disease, as well as the fact that arthritis is a progressive disease. This means that what may work at the beginning will have to be modified and changed as our pet ages and their disease gets worse.
In this video, I analyze several different aspects that can help in the treatment of arthritis:
1 – weight loss
2 – diet and supplementation
3 – physical exercise and therapies
4 – environmental management.
This holistic approach complements other treatment strategies. In general they are easy to implement and do not need to be expensive.
