The high sodium intake is related to the risk of RA
Reported in Rheum Now, diet has been considered a potential risk factor for the onset or pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis. Now a group of Spanish researchers reported a study of 18,555 people from the general population enrolled in the SUN cohort (Follow-up University of Navarra) launched in 1999. Participants answered questionnaires related to the medical history, medical conditions diagnosed by the doctor, diet and lifestyle. and sociodemographic data, BMI and physical activity.
The amount of sodium in the diet consumed per day was associated with an increased likelihood of self-reported RA. The researchers concluded that high sodium intake may be associated with a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis.
