They are the "Golden Girls" residents of the Little Rock Zoo: Sophie, 49, Zina, 57, and Babe, 42, are all older elephants. THV11 CBS News reports that these women spend their days in a zoo in Arkansas instead of in a comfortable house in Miami, however, each of them is a retired artist. The three are old circus elephants that once worked for the Ringling Bros., but nowadays they enjoy special training to stay in shape. According to the zoo, Sophie and Zina suffer from arthritis, a condition common among older humans as well. While it is not known how joint pain can affect their personalities (Sophie, for example, is described as "daring, but sweet"), it is likely that their quality of life would suffer if the ailment was not addressed. "Many animals can have the same ailments as they get older, as people do," says Zoo Elephant Manager Kristin Warner at THV11. "One of the biggest ailments we have to face is arthritis." To help with this problem and give some healthy fun to the daily routine of the elephants, Warner and his animal care team take the ladies to walk and guide them through stretches that they might not normally do (for example , raise your legs too high), in addition to medication for arthritis. For the youngest elephant, Babe, these versions of dog elephant down and other poses are also useful for the prevention of arthritis. Because animals often have a longer life expectancy in captivity than in nature, Warner says that yoga and other exercises are meant to keep them agile and ensure that elephants have a good quality of life. age I can not get enough of cats, dogs and other furry friends? "We just want them to live a nice, healthy life in their golden years here in Little Rock." For all this care and special attention, we are sure that Sophie, Zina and Babe would say "thank you for being a friend" to Warner and his elephant care staff.
